Extracellular is a Bristol based start-up aiming to be a global leader in sustainable biotechnology.

We're channeling expertise in biology, digitalisation and biomanufacturing to accelerate cultivated meat and seafood as a sustainable, ethical source of protein. We’re building really cool development and scale-up capabilities, which we'll use to help dozens of companies hit their R&D targets, and we’re going to try to save the planet!

The Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic associate scientist, keen to use their scientific background to develop sustainable solutions for the planet using biotechnology.

You will be supporting experiments in cell biology, media optimisation and bioprocessing. This might involve cell culture, analytical sciences or data science. You'll be working with a range of cell types, from microbial to mammalian, from protein expression systems to cells as nutritional protein sources.

The role will be lab-based and will utilise your skills or understanding in:

  • Cell culture techniques
  • Molecular biology, including transfections and gene editing using CRISPR.
  • Analytical techniques including qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISA's and other basic analytical techniques.
  • Bioreactor principles for mammalian cultures.
  • Experimental design, data analysis and report writing.
  • Safe working practices in a life science lab.

The Candidate Profile

  • You should have at least 1 year of experience working in a life sciences lab.
  • You'll need excellent organisational skills and a great attention to detail .
  • You'll need to be a genuine team-player who asks for help when it's needed and offers help when it isn't.
  • You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and proactive in finding ways to move forward. You'll see failure as a learning opportunity.
